Football Trading

What is football trading?

By the term trading we mean that you buy low and sell high so you earn the difference between two prices.

How is this done?

By using a bet exchange system, like Betfair. Bet Exchanges operate like in stock markets, you buy low and sell high various odds, however, in an exchange you are not confronted with a bookie but with another person who has a different opinion of a possible outcome than yours.

For example, lets say that you want to trade in a match between Arsenal and Man Utd. Betfair offers a lot of ways for you to play in this game, and these ways are called markets. For example there is the Match odds market (1X2), Half time market, Correct score market etc. You can select to trade in one, or in multiple markets.
So lets say that you select to trade at match odds (the most usual). There are three possible outcomes:
a. Arsenal will win
b. Man Utd will win
c. Draw

In an exchange you have the ability to say that you do not believe that Man will win, so what you do, you Lay that Man utd will win. From the other side, someone else has the opposite opinion so he backs Man to Win.

According to how many people and how much money have been traded in that game, you have possibility for your selection to be matched or not.

Now, since you have layed Man Utd not to win, if Arsenal wins in the game, you will win your stake, if not you will lose it.

Where trading comes in?
Here is the interesting part. if you want you can control your stake and make a sure win, no matter the outcome by doing trading between the odds. When a goal is scored by the Home team (Arsenal) then odds go skyhigh. Supposingly that you have layed before the game starts at 1.5 then when the goal is scored odds go to 8,9. This is a perfect opportunity to trade. You back Man Utd at half the amount you layed it at odds 8.9 and you win the difference that is created. Immediately you will see that all numbers become green which means that you win any of these numbers according to the outcome.

What if a goal is scored by the underdog?
Well that is a problem - unless the underdog is a famous team, odds do not go this way up, so there is no much profits. What you can do is wait untill the Home team scores and sell at that time. If such a thing doesn't happen then you can either exit the trade backing at any odds available or loose your trade.

Can I trade in a traditional bookie?
I am afraid not, as they only allow you to bet that a team will win or that it will finish in a draw.

Where can I get more information?

APIs

In addition, we recommend playing at Betfair using an API, in order to be able to play more efficiently and faster than in Betfair interface through the web. We are using bfexplorer, as we found that not only can we hedge our profits with ease, but it also uses human voice to notify you for changes! Furthermore, the API can be programmed to execute your own commands, when you are not there!
