The oldest international tournament in the world. CONMEBOL Copa América (CONMEBOL America Cup), known until 1975 as the South American Football Championship (Campeonato Sudamericano de Fútbol in Spanish and Copa Sul-Americana de Futebol in Portuguese). The competition decides the champions of South America. It has had a checkered history, being played irregularly and structured erratically since the first official staging in 1916. But since 1987, the competition taken the same format, an entire tournament staged in one country. It is now held every four years.
